چکیده

One of thechallenges in Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) is deciding which corpus is best for a speci c̄ application.Imp ortant factors of LSA in°uence the generation of high quality LSA space including the size of the corpus, the weight (local or global) functions, number of dimensions to keep, etc. These factors are often di±cult to determine and as a result hard to control for. In this paper, we provide a general method to measure similarity between semantic spaces. Using this method, one can evaluate semantic spaces (such as LSA spaces) that are generated from di®erent sets of parameters or di®erent corpora. The method we have develop ed is generic enough to evaluate di®ering types of semantic spaces.

Spatial Relations for Semantic Similarity Measurement

Measuring semantic similarity among concepts is the core method for assessing the degree of semantic interoperability within and between ontologies. In this paper, we propose to extend current semantic similarity measures by accounting for the spatial relations between different geospatial concepts. Such integration of spatial relations, in particular topologic and metric relations, leads to an...

Feeling is Understanding: From Affective to Semantic Spaces

Motivated by theories of language development we investigate the contribution of affect to lexical semantics in the context of distributional semantic models (DSMs). The relationship between semantic and affective spaces is computationally modeled for the task of semantic similarity computation between words. It is shown that affective spaces contain salient information for lexical semantic tas...

Experiments on the difference between semantic similarity and relatedness

Recent work has pointed out the difference between the concepts of semantic similarity and semantic relatedness. Importantly, some NLP applications depend on measures of semantic similarity, while others work better with measures of semantic relatedness. It has also been observed that methods of computing similarity measures from text corpora produce word spaces that are biased towards either s...

Exploiting conceptual spaces for ontology integration

The widespread use of ontologies raises the need to integrate distinct conceptualisations. Whereas the symbolic approach of established representation standards – based on first-order logic (FOL) and syllogistic reasoning – does not implicitly represent semantic similarities, ontology mapping addresses this problem by aiming at establishing formal relations between a set of knowledge entities w...

On-the-Fly Ontology Matching for Smart M3-based Smart Spaces

Proper functioning of smart spaces demands semantic interoperability of the knowledge processors connected to it. As a consequence it is required to develop models that would enable knowledge processors to perform onthe-fly translation and interpretation between the internal and smart spaces ontologies. The paper presents our solution to the above stated problem, which has been implemented for ...
